There were a few posts about this when it happened, and I looked up recent articles to see how things have moved on. Two key points: the pilot initiated the loop several hundred feet too low, causing the crash - and now is being investigated under charges of manslaughter for causing 11 deaths.

I recall something about him not being cleared to do such a stunt near public audience.
Something about him wanting to do a final hurrah for the aircraft as he or the aircraft were due to retire.

I wrote the majority of the posts on it in the immediate aftermath, I’m planning to do an in-depth review of what is happening with the case, what has happened locally since and what effect it has had on the wider airshow community in the UK and beyond. I was spectating from the riverbank just outside the airport that day and it’s my hometown.
I plan to release all of it on the anniversary.

I read an article on safety changes at the recent Farnborough airshow as a result of the Shoreham crash. I’ll summarize:
- Farnborough already had a more restrictive flight envelope for the airshow than the CAA requirements, so changes for 2016 were minimal
- relocated the aerobatic flight zone to be entirely within the airport perimeter and adjacent military grounds
- require pilots to be climbing when moving away from airport
- closed off access to surrounding “public” viewing areas on roadsides and canals, along with posted warnings
- several flight teams switched from acrobatic programs to level flight demonstrations, most notably the Red Arrows military flight team
